“Let me tell you: men love cruelty. Cruelty looks better on a woman than the perfect dress.” ⚡️
Three Women by @lisadtaddeo is probs one of my fave books of all time so when she came out with her first novel I was so excited to read it - and it did not disappoint!
While the book is very different from Three Woman, a lot of the same themes are there as is the compelling & evocative language from the author that is both shocking and beautiful.

The book follows Joan, a character who embodies female rage. After a traumatic childhood and a tumultuous history with men, Joan seeks out a new adventure in hopes to find someone that might connect her to her past. As we learn more about Joan, her past, and her intentions for her new start, things get much more complicated - you won’t be able to stop reading.
At times, the plot seems so unbelievable that it verges on magical realism but never in a way that feels hokey. Freudian & animalistic concepts are woven throughout for an electric read. As a writer reading, I was just constantly highlighting lines. She’s the kind of writer where you’re like “how did she do that?!” - it’s that good. 🤯
Taddeo is brilliant at testing the boundaries of genre. If you loved Three Women, check this one out! It’s a bit of a challenging read in some ways but if you’re into that, go for it!
If you’ve read this one, lmk! This is a book I would love to do a book club on because it is so complex and different - I feel like there are so many different interpretations that could come up based on the reader’s own personal experience. I’d love to know what you think! 🧐
